It is a lovely sunny Saturday and I am Substacking for the first time. My daughter tells me that my IG posts are long. I have not blogged in a while and definitely not had the discipline to do so on a regular basis.
But now that I have finally published my revised edition of “Growing Up in a Nonya Kitchen”, it’s time to move on to newer horizons. I love writing, exploring new restaurants, collecting cookbooks and just plain eating. I probably eat too much. I have more to share and I could easily post it on my personal blog (currently, www.nonya.global). But I love interactions, feedback, a community that exchanges online. It keeps the space alive and vibrant and I can’t tell you enough about the wonderful connections I have made as a result.
That’s what appeals to me about Substack. My article will be a repeat of my blog entry on my website, but I welcome the comments and the interactions.
That said, there’s just so much to read…everywhere! So I will strive to keep it short(er), interesting and reflective. And I will start with one article a month. Let’s see how it goes, shall we?
I am not planning to charge for reading my work. I think it’s a privilege to have you read mine.
I will share recipes and I will narrow my focus to something that fits into the amorphous world of my Asian/Singapore cooking. Alas, my recipes will be along the lines of more generic ones but with my own take on them. I am old-school and maintain that proprietary ideas and expressions are best left in a published copyrighted cookbook.
Do subscribe and join me for this adventure. Let’s just consider you my founding members.
Much love
Sharon
